American Indian Cultural CenterSummary Update:(Site Infrastructure): At present, allocation of the Vision 2025 portion of this project is subject to the results of NIMI’s fund raising activities and schedule, which is being monitored by the River Parks Authority. NIMI has received a $500,000 grant for architectural services which are to be privately funded. This grant satisfies the first of the two fund raising milestones required by the land lease from River Parks Authority. National Indian Monument and Institute signed a lease in Jan. 2005, for 39 acres of land with the Tulsa's River Parks Authority, for 99 years at $1 per year. This land is located at 71st Street and Elwwod on the west bank of the Arkansas River, next to Turkey Mountain. Background:Water, sewer lines and a road will be built for the development of this center on the west bank of the Arkansas River, allowing funds raised by the American Indian Cultural Center through foundations and federal grants to create a museum, cultural center, art gallery, restaurants, stomp grounds and Native American visitor center. Project will highlight the culture of the Native Americans and will cater to the second largest Native American population in the country. |
